Generic lighting is everywhere.

Yours doesn't have to be.

Jon May smiling with a wall of colorful lamps

Years ago, I moved into a small New York apartment and got into 3D printing as an alternative to a larger workshop. I was hooked. I customized everything from my desk to my kitchen. Over the years I honed the craft, picked up a Prusa printer, and eventually designed the first iteration of the Dollop Lamp for my nightstand.

My designs found an audience on Etsy and Printables. The response validated an appetite for lighting with character. What started as a personal project became a small studio in Pittsburgh.

Jonmaymakes is for people who care about what's in their space. People who want lighting with character and a story behind it.

Lighting with a point of view, for spaces that feel like yours.

Design with personality

Every lamp starts as a concept. Bold shapes, textures, and colors designed to earn a place in a room.

Powered by 3D printing

I can quickly iterate on designs thanks to 3D printing. Every lamp is made to order with minimal waste.

Made responsibly

I print in PLA, a bio-based plastic from renewable resources like corn and sugarcane. Everything ships in paper packaging.

Built to last

Each lamp is designed with right-to-repair in mind so it can be fixed rather than replaced. I believe in durability, not disposability.

The future is print-it-yourself

Today's printers make it easier than ever to download a file and have something in your hands the same day. No shipping, no wait. It's also the most personal version — you choose the printer, the material, the color.

Your space deserves better

These lamps exist because generic lighting is an easy default but it doesn't have to be. Your nightstand, your desk, and your living room all deserve better than boring lighting.
